Thailand Travel Web Search Engine

Philosophy Behind PyTio!

Searching for original travel information for Thailand can be very frustrating these days. Picking your way among the tens-of-thousands of sites that scrape content from Wikipedia and other content oriented web sites is frustrating.

What you see may look okay at first, but often it doesn't make sense .. and is then followed by a list of affiliate links to one of the major hotel booking sites.

Because of questionable tactics that game the major search engines, those results at the tops of pages often don't live up to your search terms.

Have you ever searched for a travel site about Thailand and found a site for selling domain names .. or walked into a virtual forest of text ads and blinking banners?

While we do not fancy ourselves as site design pundits, so we will never reject a site on asthetic grounds .. that's up to you. What we do is strive for SPAM-free and Relevant Results

There are some excellent sites that offer splendid information about Thailand. But those sites may not even show in the first 1,000 results in Google. We believe that users want a better experience than that.

So how is that accomplished? Human intervention and good judgment. If we check a site before we add it to a list of sites to spider, we can be assured that, unless the webmaster makes changes, we will be serving SPAM free and highly relevant results.

Our crawler does not follow outbound links, so we won't be showing results from sites we don't know about.

What qualifies a site to get into PyTio?
  1. It must be mostly about Thailand. As an example, we do not crawl Lonely Planet. Our resources are limited and Lonely Planet has a huge amount of content that is not Thailand centric.
  2. They have to provide a text link that meets our requirements. The reason is simple .. promotion. The more inbound links to PyTio, the more popular it becomes and the more it is used .. and the more PyTio benefits the sites we index
  3. A web site must publish original "content". We will remove sites if we know they infringe copyrights. Photography is "content". Stories are "content".
  4. Directories are not indexed simply because they are indexes and not original content. We feel that someone searching for Thailand travel information should not need to search again after landing on a directory page.
  5. Forums - too difficult to monitor and too prone to SPAM.
Will we show results for individual accomodations, tour agencies and hotel booking site? Of course we will .. so long as they are principles and not predominately affiliates.

Will we be showing any sites with affiliate links. Yes we will, so long as the majority of the web publication is content and the affiliate links are minority.
